Jiminy Peak: Frequently Asked Questions

Registration is closed - can I still register?
No.

The field is full - is there a waiting list?
No. We expect a number of no-shows and planned accordingly by selling a few extra entries. The field limits are set based on safe field sizes and an expected ratio of no-shows. In effect, the waiting list is built into pre-registration.

My teammate isn't racing - can I use his registration?
If you're asking this question on race day, the answer is no. The large number of people who must be processed in a short time at registration does not allow handling of special requests without jeopardizing quick, smooth turnaround times for everyone else. These arrangements can be made through the Wednesday before race day. Please include your teammate's BikeReg confirmation number with your request for identification purposes.

I'm a cat 4 and my field is full. Can I race in the cat 3 field? I've already won X races.
No, we can only allow you into the races for which your license indicates you qualify. You'll need to follow the usual methods of upgrading through the USCF.

Can I change fields?
This can be accomodated if arranged by the Wednesday before race day, given that the desired field is not full and the appropriate qualifications are met (age, gender, and category). Please include your BikeReg confirmation number with your request for identification purposes.

I can't make it to the race. My boss is sending me to Europe / I broke my arm / My car broke down. Can I get a refund?
This request can most likely be accommodated, given enough notice before race day. There will be a $2 charge for postage and handling. Exchanges will be made for free (through Wednesday) so selling your entry to a friend or teammate is to your advantage. Please include your BikeReg confirmation number with your request for identification purposes.

What if I don't have a license?
New racers may buy either a single day or annual racing license at the race. New racers will be assigned to the entry level category, 5 for men and 4 for women. If your existing license has expired, you may also get a license at the race. You'll need to show your expired license to prove your category if you've upgraded beyond the entry level.

Is there neutral support to carry my spare wheels?
Yes, all fields have a follow vehicle.

Why are the Master 45+ and Master 55+ races limited to categories 1 through 4 only? It wasn't like that before.
The USCF introduced a new rule for 2006 limiting the field size for any race that includes category 5 riders to 75 entrants. Rather than turn away 50 riders, we opted for the category restriction.

Why so few riders in the Master 55+ race?
The Master 55+ riders race with the Master 45+ for a total of 125 riders. The 45+ riders register in larger numbers so they make up a larger share of the field. If more 55+ riders want to race, they need to register before the race fills.

Why can't you separate the 55+, cat 5, or women 4 into their own field? I'm sure there are enough people to justify a separate race.
The race is run on a loop of only 18.5 miles which the Pro/1/2 field completes in about 44 minutes. The remaining groups go progressively slower on average and choose to go fast or ease up at different times. It's necessary to maintain enough space between races to keep the groups separated. This limits the number of fields we can accomodate to eight without risking the merging of fields on the road and the resulting confusion. Additionally that many extra people would risk straining the community to point where the race would no longer be welcome.

Why is the women's race only two laps?
The speed difference between the women and the pro/1/2 race doesn't leave enough room for the women to complete three laps without being caught by the pro/1/2 men.
